MGM thanks veterans — with pathways to careers
Our Employer of the Week series features one company each week that has made a commitment to hiring and supporting veterans. This week’s employer is MGM International Resorts.
MGM International Resorts is a global entertainment company with national and international hotels, casinos, conference spaces, restaurants, nightlife, retail, and more. MGM International Resorts exists to entertain the human race. Additionally, the company also does a great job providing careers for military veterans.

"MGM Resorts International is committed to honoring our country's veterans through high-quality career opportunities," said Myron Carter, diversity and recruiting programs consultant for military, disability, and diversity recruiting. "We believe that veterans embody the values of MGM Resorts — teamwork, excellence, and inclusion — and we are actively inviting them to join our organization. As a company, we recognize that there's no better way to tell veterans thank you than to offer them viable employment and pathways to careers. It's as much in our company's interest as it is in our servicemen and women's interest."
Directly quoted from MGM International Resorts CEO and chairman James Murren, the company's mission statement for veterans shows how those recruiting efforts start at the very top.
"I think it's important for people to understand that our commitment to this program starts at the top," Carter said.
And it may start at the top, but MGM International Resorts has veterans, support programs, resources, and professional groups at all levels of its operations.

MGM International Resorts partners with military-specific job boards to list positions on 23 military network sites, seven federal government sites, and over 68 state-level or microsites that military service members go to when seeking employment. The company both attends and hosts military-connected career fairs — including its 7th annual veteran and families career fair on September 3, 2019, at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center where veterans can even get on-the-spot job offers for different positions.
"The beautiful thing for me is when you're looking at our military employee breakdown you'll find military employees in our securities positions, you'll find them in our talent acquisition positions, we even have vice presidents who are military-connected or are veterans themselves," Carter said. "So we have a wide range of employees within our organization that are military-connected or have served or are still serving in some way."
"At MGM Resorts we believe in being a veteran-ready employer which means that we focus on all aspects of employment readiness — attracting, hiring, and retaining quality employees," Carter added. "And we like to say we must ensure that our organizational culture is not only conducive to bringing them in, but integrating them into our industry and providing engagement...so they can have an opportunity to become members of our family for years to come."
