Our Employer of the Week series features one company each week that has made a commitment to hiring and supporting veterans. This week’s employer is Sharp Decisions

Sharp Decisions is a talent solutions and consulting firm that has been helping clients overcome a wide range of challenges for almost 30 years. One of those challenges is veteran employment. The Vocation, Education, and Training for Service members (V.E.T.S.) program helps veterans find meaningful employment at the right salary point.

"Since we started the program we've probably trained over 400 people and it's no cost to them," said Karen Ross, president and CEO of Sharp Decisions. "The biggest problem is that the civilian community does not put into account what they've done in the military and what they've learned. They don't know how to take those skills and take those into the workplace."

Sharp Decisions and the V.E.T.S. program works to help veterans find the right first job to start a successful career — and Ross works firsthand to make sure the veterans she helps are not underemployed.

"So if I go in and they say 'We only want to pay X,' I say, 'Not for me.' These guys have ten years of experience and you can't find a program manager who can manage this thing better than anybody else," Ross said.

The training offered through the V.E.T.S. program is free for veterans — all it takes is a commitment.

"We just ask them for a commitment. Look me in the eye, give me a commitment, tell me you're in 100 percent, and you're going to do the best darn job you can for our client," Ross said.
