CV Employer of the Week | Victory Trades Alliance connects vets with careers in skilled trades

July 31, 2020

Our Employer of the Week is a non-profit organization that is connecting vets with civilian jobs in the mechanical, electrical and plumbing industry.

Victory Trades Alliance is passionate in its belief that veterans can find jobs in the MEP field no matter where they live, said Air Force veteran and VTA President Chaunte Hall.

“You look at the Bureau of Labor statistics, the trades pay higher than most jobs requiring a college degree,” she said.

And, MEP careers have another plus, especially during the current COVID-19 pandemic, Hall said.

“They are essential,” she said. “Instead of blue-collar, the trades are the new collar.”

In addition to helping transitioning service members and veterans find jobs in the MEP trades, the alliance also assists employers in hiring and training employees with military backgrounds.

“Victory Trades Alliance is striving to raise the profile of the skilled trades,” added Hall.

Veterans bring a wide skill set with them to the MEP trades -- they are problem solver, organized and detail-oriented, she said. MEP trades also offer veterans a chance to continue serving.

“You continue to serve your community when you enter the skilled trades,” said Hall.

VTA also lets both veterans and employers know about its training schools and serves as a resource to connect both groups to the schools and each other.
