Earn money for college and build a career with Employer of the Week Lowe's
Veterans can build a great career and get help with continuing their education in the skilled trades with our Employer of the Week Lowe's.
“By 2028, there will be an estimated three million job openings in the skilled trades industry,” said Lowe’s military recruiting strategist and Air Force veteran Michael Piper. “Lowe’s is committed to solving this problem, and it begins right at home -- with our own workforce and dynamic military population.”
The national chain of home improvement superstoresemploys nearly 20,000 associates with ties to the military and is an employer of choice for transitioning veterans and military spouses.
Lowe’s has teamed with AMVETS to create the Veteranpreneur Business Grants and Tech Scholarship program. The effort is part of the company's $400,000 commitment to veterans, spouses and active-duty service members pursuing careers in skilled trades and technology, he continued.
“The awards are open to veterans, their spouses and active duty service members pursuing careers in skilled trades and technology,” said Piper.
Veteranpreneur Business Grants are targeted to veterans interested in trades that fit Lowe’s business model, such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical and appliance repair.
“The grant is for those who have reached the level of journeyman who are ready to launch their own business or who are ready to take their existing business to the next level,” continued Piper. “In addition to a $25,000 award, winners also become eligible to be Lowe's authorized contractors.”
Generation T Scholarships offer veterans, National Guard and Reserve members, their spouses and active-duty service members within two years of transitioning out of the military eligibility to become certified in trade industries at self-selected accredited institutions. Winners can receive up to $5,000, paid directly to their school. The money can be used to cover the cost of books, tuition and other training expenses.
Lowe’s + AMVETS Technology Scholarships are for veterans, members of the National Guard and Reserve, their spouses and active duty service members who are sophomores, juniors or seniors with a GPA of 3.0 at an accredited university studying in a computer science field that meets the Lowe’s technology focus. Winners receive a $5,000 scholarship.
