Our Employer of the Week series features one company each week that has made a commitment to hiring and supporting veterans. This week’s resource is NYU Tandon Future Labs.

This company understands the challenges of starting a company, and the resources and time it takes. NYU Tandon Future Labs is a network of business incubators designed to support early-stage ventures based in New York City. One of their programs, Apex, was designed specifically to help veterans, military spouses and DoD affiliates.

Steve Kuyan, director of entrepreneurship at NYU Tandon School of Engineering, said Apex, based out of the Veterans Future Lab, was started to help eligible applicants with the resources and support needed to start and maintain a high impact business.

“Our goal is to ensure that companies can graduate in one year with a business model that is scalable and a network of mentors, investors, advisors and startups to continue to support them after the program,” said Steve Kuyan, director of entrepreneurship at NYU Tandon School of Engineering.

Kuyan said interested people must apply to the program, and they choose approximately twelve applicants per year. Apex is a one-year immersion program that offers the selected recipients all the resources that the incubator labs offer. This would include access to faculty members from the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, research, interns, and industry experts. Select qualifying founders relocating to NYC for the program are offered free housing.

“It’s a very arduous and daunting task,” Kuyan said of having a start-up company. “Being placed in our ecosystem is very important- with other like-minded entrepreneurs.”
