Our Employer of the Week series features one company each week that has made a commitment to hiring and supporting veterans. This week’s employer is Comcast.

Comcast is a global media technology company with three primary areas of business -- NBCUniversal, Comcast and SkyGroup, said Sean Casey, director of communication for the company’s military and veterans team.

“At Comcast, we value the talent that individuals that come from the military community bring to ours,” he said. “The company not only wants to hire military veterans but to help them thrive in their careers with Comcast. “

Comcast recently announced an initiative that seeks to hire 21,000 veterans by 2021, Casey said. Once they are employed, the company has several programs to help boost their careers.

Among those programs is a veteran network. The employee resource group assists veterans with networking and professional development.

“It really helps build a supportive community for individuals that have served, continue to serve or come from a military background,” Casey said.

The company also has a number of unique benefits for those who serve in the National Guard, and Reserves are offered an additional 15 days off each year so they can attend required military training.

“Not only can they balance their civilian career here, but they are also able to fulfill their military obligations,” he said.

Casey is a beneficiary of that program himself as he continues his service in the Army Reserve.

“From a personal perspective, having that benefit alleviates a lot of stress because I know the company has my back,” he said.

Comcast also has programs that allow military spouses who move from one location to another to transfer to a job in their new location. If a job with Comcast is not available, the company has resources to help in the job search, Casey said.

“The company recognizes that those individuals who have raised their right hand and sworn to defend the country deserve respect and opportunity,” he said.
