Employer of the Week Cisco uses the latest technology to put veterans to work

April 20, 2020

Our Employer of the Week this week is Cisco, which uses unique support programs to match military qualifications with jobs that are available at technology companies around the world.

Cisco is a global technology leader that has been making the internet work since 1984. It connects the unconnected by long-lasting customer partnerships, identifying the needs of its customers and providing solutions that fuel their success.

Its Talent Bridge for Veteransbases matches on employer-designated criteria including location, education, certifications, and experience. Through machine learning powered by Cisco DevNet military occupational classifications can be mapped to civilian job postings, enabling more successful matches.

Nick Michaelides, senior vice president, U.S. Public Sector at Cisco, said the company offers veterans and military personnel many pathways to meaningful employment.

“They have made significant sacrifices to defend our nation and the freedoms we all cherish,” he said.

Employers can additionally leverage Talent Bridge to connect directly to pre-qualified talent and veterans can explore the many available job postings from around the globe.

The Cisco Networking Academy is an IT skills and career building program that offers self-paced courses no matter what level you are in your career. The academy has served over 300,000 veterans and 90,000 personnel on more than 30 military installations since 1998

Cisco’s Veteran Talent Incubation Program is a 20-week self-study program that offers both veterans and military spouses free access to Cisco Certified Network Associate training and certification, along with the opportunity to get hired into dedicated network engineering roles at the company.

In addition to Talent Bridge, Cisco offers the following programs to help veterans transition from the military to a successful civilian career.

CyberVers USA offers free cybersecurity training, certification, and employment services to veterans and military spouses. In addition to Cisco, other partners include Amazon Web Services, Palo Alto Networks, ISC2, Fortinet, NetApp, and NDG.

With over 250,000 service members leaving the military every year, Michaelides said Cisco considers veterans to be a highly skilled talent pool that can help grow the company’s business.

“Through their service, these brave men and women developed many invaluable skills that they are using to build thriving, resilient communities,” he said.
