Chevron has plenty of job opportunities for veterans

May 27, 2020

Veterans aren’t cut out of a cookie-cutter mold. Employer of the Week Chevron, believes its team members who have military experience bring a variety of experience to the corporate table.

Based in San Ramon, California, Chevron is one of the world’s leading integrated energy companies. With more than 45,000 employees worldwide, it is ranked No. 15 on the 2020 Fortune 500.

Through its subsidiaries, Chevron is involved in virtually every facet of the energy industry, said Lee Jourdan, chief diversity officer.

“Our success is driven by a dedicated, diverse and highly skilled global workforce united by the vision, values and strategies of The Chevron Way and a commitment to deliver industry-leading results and superior stockholder value in any operating environment,” he said.

Jourdan is a graduate of West Point and is a 5-year veteran of the Army, serving as a logistics officer and paratrooper with the 18th Airborne Corps.

“Chevron is proud that military veterans play such a vital role in our workforce,” he said. “Valuing veterans ties into our belief in diversity and inclusion.”

Jourdan added that valuing veterans also helps the company to identify those with the skill-sets it needs to succeed.

“We recognize the commitment to teamwork and safety inherent in military service,” he explained. “We benefit from the many attributes veterans offer.”

Those attributes include attention to detail, problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a team environment, Jourdan explained.

“At Chevron, veterans find retired members of the military and active reservists throughout the company,” he said.

Jourdan said the company has learned that it can’t rely on a one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to veteran hiring and support initiatives. It has partnered with NextOp, an organization that recruits, trains and places high-performing middle-enlisted military leaders into industry careers.

Chevron also has a Veterans Employee Network which is dedicated to supporting the personal and professional growth of veterans. The network also provides veteran recruiting assistance.

The company was also awarded the 2019 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award for its support of employees with military experience and service.
