Meet the Vetforce Alliance
Our Employer of the Week series features one company each week that has made a commitment to hiring and supporting veterans. This week’s employer is Salesforce.
Salesforce is the global leader in customer relationship management aimed at bringing companies closer to their customers through data analysis, understanding customer needs, and cloud solutions. This year, Salesforce launched the Vetforce Alliance specifically to help veterans and military spouses join the Salesforce team and break into the technology industry.
"What Vetforce is able to provide is a free training and online virtual platform for these individuals to learn skills and earn certifications," said Adrienne Sherk, senior manager partner at Salesforce. "It's an initiative aimed specifically at accelerating the hiring process of veterans and military spouses for Salesforce ecosystem roles."
And the Vetforce Alliance is partnering with big companies like Accenture Federal Services to do just that. Through its partnership with Vetforce Alliance, Accenture Federal Services guarantees an interview for open positions in San Antonio, Tx. or Washington, D.C. to any veteran or military spouse with a Vetforce Alliance certification.
“We know veterans make great employees,” retired Army Maj. Gen. George Franz, who is now the Managing Director and Defense Cybersecurity Lead for Accenture Federal Services, said in a Salesforce statement. “Transitioning veterans have an incredible work ethic and an innate desire to work together to accomplish a mission. Teaching them the new technical skills they need to be an asset to our company — so that they can better provide vital services for our customers — is essentially a win-win. In reality, they never stop serving; they’re now just contributing in a different but critical way.”
"The goal behind the Alliance is really to have our partners think about ways to accelerate the process altogether and getting certified veterans and spouses onto their teams," Sherk said.
"Oftentimes, people who aren't in technology roles in the military think that breaking into technology in the civilian sector is difficult, and it's not with Salesforce," Sherk added. "We have folks who came from every MOS, every background and learned Salesforce through the Vetforce program. They were able to earn certifications and find meaningful employment. There's no contract, there's no fees, no commitment. The Vetforce program is there as a resource for individuals to see if the technology industry is for them.
