In honor of Trucker Appreciation Week, meet the Teamsters
Our Employer of the Week series features one company each week that has made a commitment to hiring and supporting veterans. This week’s employer, in honor of Trucker Appreciation Week, is The Teamsters.
Since 1903, The Teamsters has worked to become North America's strongest and most diverse labor union. While the organization started as the champion of freight drivers and warehouse workers, its 1,900 affiliates throughout the United States now have worked with employees in virtually every occupation. And they offer special partnership and employment programs specifically for veterans.
The Teamsters Military Assistance Program (TMAP) assists transitioning active duty service members, veterans, and military spouses find employment with responsible employers. The program currently partners with ABF Freight in the freight trucking industry and FirstGroup in the passenger transport industry.

"A large number of Teamster members served in the Vietnam War — and many of their names are etched into the Vietnam Veterans Memorial here in D.C.," Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa said. "The Teamsters Union continued the push to buy war bonds during that conflict, and the union continues to work for and honor our veterans to this day."
In addition to TAMP, The Teamsters offer scholarships, disaster relief, retiree benefits, member rights, and worker training. To learn more about opportunities with The Teamsters, visit their website.
